Hello. My name is Demah Payne III (Mr. Payne) and I am currently a school counselor along with Ms. D at West Lake Elementary School. I am excited about the opportunity to provide various guidance lessons and implement my counseling services to the students of West Lake. I received my Masters degree, in Counselor Education from East Carolina University (Go Pirates!!). I am extremely ecstatic to be a part of the superb staff at West Lake Elementary. I look forward to being a positive role model and raising the self- esteem of today's youth. One of my personal targets is to aspire to give students confidence and assure them that they can achieve any of their goals.
My name is Kristi Martyn and I am the school nurse at West Lake Elementary. This is my first year at WLES but my second year as a school nurse in Wake County. I currently also cover at West Lake Middle and Dillard Drive Elementary. I graduated with my BSN from Lander University in South Carolina. My family moved to NC from SC a little over 2 years ago. I have 2 boys ages 15 and 5. My goal within school health is to help keep students in class as much as possible. I try to eliminate barriers that hinder this. I love being a school nurse and love West Lake Elementary.
Hello! I’m Cherie Urban and this is my second year serving as the school psychologist at West Lake Elementary School. In addition to WLES, I also serve West Lake Middle School. I'm excited to be working with the families at West Lake this year! Since I work at two schools, I’m here at West Lake ES approximately 2 ½ days a week; currently I’m here on Mondays, Wednesdays, and some Fridays. I came to Wake County last year after working for Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools for 17 years, but I’m originally from Erie, PA (north of Pittsburgh- Go Steelers!). I got my Master’s in Educational Psychology, followed by my post-grad certification in School Psychology, from Edinboro University of PA, but also have degrees in Elementary and Special Education. I enjoy working with students of all ages in a variety of ways.
Hello My name is Michele Lesniak and I am the School Social Worker at WLE. This is my second year at WLE but I have worked with WCPSS for about 20 years! I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and a Certified School Social Worker. I have a Masters degree in Social Worker from University of NY at Buffalo (GO Bills!). I love my job and working with the students and their families. School Social Workers help to remove barriers to learning and to a child being successful in school. Some examples of these barriers could include homelessness, high absences, mental health issues, limited resources to meet basic needs like clothing, food, and shelter. School Social Workers work closely with the Student Support Services Team to help connect the School, Family and Community.
